2021 COVID UPDATE

Last year we had to make the difficult decision to postpone our Festival of Ceramics to September 2021. We also decided that the time was too uncertain to introduce any new events in 2020 or host our annual Winter Artisan market.

Instead we hosted a free online Festival of Ceramics event in September 2020 so that you could have the chance of getting acquainted with our fabulous exhibitors and hopefully buy a pot or two. Thank you so much to everyone who supported this event.

We had initially rescheduled our Festival of Ceramics at Exeter Racecourse to September 24th & 25th 2021. This event takes several months and a significant amount of investment to organise and plan so, when the Government announced on June 14th this year that a) the lifting of restrictions would be delayed a further month and b) they were anticipating a further wave and possible restrictions again in September 21, we had to think long and hard about the viability of hosting an event of this size under a cloud of such uncertainty. The bottom line is that, with the distinct possibility of having to pull the event at the last minute, the financial risk for both organiser and exhibitors was too great, especially after such a testing year. So with a heavy heart and much reluctance we have moved the event to 2022.

This year we had been hoping to introduce other events into the mix to make up for cancelling everything last year, but even our smaller local events (with 70 - 100 exhibitors) take several months to plan and several thousand is spent in the run up to the event. This is a small business and an ever changing environment means significant financial risk that we can ill afford.

We are watching what happens in the coming months and hope to be in a position to confidently plan events in the near future.

In the mean time, myself and my host of talented artists and makers thank you for your patience and support and sincerely hope to meet you all in real life at some point soon.

A huge thank you to the team at Exeter Racecourse for their understanding and flexibility.

With fingers and toes crossed.

Stay safe.
